Frederick Keys week two recap
The Frederick Keys start this week with a 4-3 record and hope to play well and finish the week with a commanding lead in the Carolina League- Northern Division. Here is the weekly recap of all the games this week.
Game 1: 4/12/18: Nationals 6 Keys 11, Christian Alvarado goes 5.1 innings giving up 3 earned runs. The bullpen only gives up 1 earned run but once again the defense gives the other team 2 runs. Ryan McKenna hit his first homer of the year and Preston Palmeiro finished with 3 hits. Many players contributed and the Keys win. The player of the game goes to: Ryan McKenna (2-4, BB, HR, 2 RBIs)
Game 2: 4/13/18: Nationals 7 Keys 1, not much offense from the Keys. Cody Sedlock goes just 4 innings giving up 4 runs. The defense committed 2 errors and obviously did not score many runs. The player of the game goes to Cole Billingsley (2-4 RBI)
Game 3: 4/14/18: Nationals 6 Keys 2, Lucas Humpal goes 7 innings but gives up 6 runs but somehow only threw 83 pitches. The offense again was silent, but Preston Palmeiro goes 1-3 and hits a solo home run and he is the player of the game.
Game 4: 4/15/18: Nationals 5 Keys 6, the final outcome for this matchup ended up very even, both teams finishing with 10 hits, no errors, and a one run ballgame. Brian Gonzalez goes 6 innings, just giving up 2 runs and 5 strikeouts. Jhon Peluffo goes 3 innings giving up 3 runs and no strikeouts but ends up getting the win in the end.
Player of the game: Ryan McKenna (3-4, BB, 2B)
Game 5: 4/16/18: Keys 0 Hillcats 5
Defense is killing the Keys so far in this young season, the Keys commit 4 errors and give the pitching no run support. Ofelky Peralta gives up 2 unearned runs while going 4 innings with 5 strikeouts, he is pitching well this year but he still needs to work on his control. Peralta has potential, he gave up four walks in the game but he is pitching well this year and this will hopefully be a year of great development for the 20 year old right hander.
Game 6: 4/17/18: Keys 1 Hillcats 4
Alex Wells only gives up 2 runs but gets too high in his pitch count with 97 pitches and only goes 4.2 innings striking out 2 and walking 2. 3 players had multi hit games despite the one run hitting performance. The DH, JC Escarra gets the player of the game going 2-4 with an RBI.
Game 7: 4/18/18: Keys 1 Hillcats 4
This matchup between these two teams ended up being a very similar game as the last. Christian Alvarado goes 6 innings, striking out 2, walking 2, and giving up 3 runs. The offense again was silent. Only producing 3 hits and 2 walks. The player of this game was Christian Alvarado (6 IP, 2 BB, 2 Ks, 3 ER)
The Frederick Keys finish this week with a 6-8 record and did not play the way they had hoped to. The Keys look to have a bounce back week next week. The bats need to stay consistent and the defense has got to play better.
