The Frederick Keys split a baseball doubleheader with the Asheville Tourists (Astros) at Nymeo Field Sunday, dropping Game 1 by a 6-0 score before winning Game 2, 7-2. The victory in the second game marked Frederick’s 77th win of the year and concluded the team’s final regular-season home games of 2026.
Asheville Takes the Opener
The Asheville Tourists scored a run in the first inning and added five more in the third to take a 6-0 lead. Christian Rodriguez struck out all three batters he faced in the first inning to keep Frederick in the game early.
Ben Vespi pitched scoreless innings in relief during the fifth, sixth and seventh frames, but Frederick was unable to overcome the deficit. Asheville held on for the 6-0 victory in Game 1.
Frederick Responds in Game 2
Leandro Arias drove in Jaiden Lo Re with a sacrifice bunt in the first inning, giving Frederick a 1-0 lead. In the third inning, Carson Dorsey struck out all three batters he faced, helping maintain the advantage.
Colin Yeaman extended the lead with a solo home run in the fifth inning, his third of the season, making it 2-0. Asheville scored on a wild pitch in the sixth inning, but Frederick answered with five runs in the bottom half.
Jordan Sanchez contributed a two-RBI single, followed by a three-run homer from DJ Layton. Asheville added a solo home run in the seventh, but Brendan Parks closed out the game on the mound, securing Frederick’s 7-2 victory.
Keys Finish Series With Five Wins
The Frederick Keys won five games and lost one in the series against Asheville. With their final regular-season home games behind them, Frederick has one series remaining.
After Monday’s league-wide off day, the Keys will begin their final regular-season series at Coney Island on Tuesday evening. The first game will resume the suspended July 5 game from Nymeo Field, followed by a nine-inning game. First pitch is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. at Maimonides Park.
