The Frederick Keys completed their second six-game series sweep of the season Sunday afternoon with a 15-8 victory over the Jersey Shore BlueClaws (Phillies) at ShoreTown Ballpark in Lakewood, New Jersey. The win closed Frederick’s six-game road trip and followed the Keys’ May 12-17 sweep of the Hudson Valley Renegades (Yankees).
The Keys showed consistent offensive power, scoring in eight of nine innings and hitting four home runs during the game. Randal Diaz led the way with his fifth home run of the season and a team-high four RBIs.
Frederick Keys Establish Early Lead
Leandro Arias opened the scoring with an RBI single in the top of the first inning. Fernando Peguero followed with an RBI double in the second, and Diaz hit his fifth homer of the season in the third to give Frederick a 3-0 advantage.
Yasmil Bucce extended the lead with a solo home run in the fourth inning. The BlueClaws answered with a three-run homer in the bottom half of the inning, tying the game at 4-4.
Seven-Run Fifth Puts Frederick Ahead
Frederick responded with seven runs in the fifth inning. An error by Jersey Shore brought home two runs before Félix Amparo drew a bases-loaded walk to make it 7-4.
Enddy Azocar and Diaz followed with two-RBI doubles, pushing the lead to 11-4 entering the sixth. Jersey Shore scored four runs in the sixth to cut the deficit to 11-8.
Keys Extend Lead Late
Diaz added a two-out RBI double in the seventh, giving Frederick a 12-8 lead. Braylin Tavera then hit a two-run home run in the eighth inning, extending the lead to 14-8. Azocar hit his first home run as a Key in the ninth to complete the scoring at 15-8.
Closing Out the Game and Upcoming Homestand
Todd Kniebbe threw a 1-2-3 bottom of the ninth inning to finish the game. The Keys secured their second six-game series sweep of the season.
Frederick will return home Tuesday night to begin their second-to-last homestand of the regular season against the Bowling Green Hot Rods (Rays). First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Nymeo Field at Harry Grove Stadium.
