The Frederick Keys defeated the Brooklyn Cyclones (Mets) 9-5 Friday at Maimonides Park in Brooklyn, New York, recording their 81st regular-season victory and setting a new franchise record.
The win moved the Frederick Keys 1.5 games ahead of the Greensboro Grasshoppers for first place in the second-half standings with two regular-season games remaining. The previous franchise record was 80 regular-season wins, set in 2011.
Frederick Keys Rally for Seven Runs in the Eighth
The Brooklyn Cyclones took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning when John Spikerman hit a solo home run. Randal Diaz tied the game for the Frederick Keys with a solo home run to left field in the top of the fourth inning, but Brooklyn scored two runs in the bottom half to take a 3-1 lead.
Alejandro Urias extended the Cyclones’ advantage to 5-1 with a two-run home run in the bottom of the sixth inning. After scoreless seventh innings from both teams, the Frederick Keys scored seven runs in the top of the eighth.
Braylin Tavera hit a two-RBI double, followed by Jaiden Lo Re’s two-RBI double. Yasmil Bucce then hit a three-run home run, giving Frederick an 8-5 lead.
Frederick Keys Complete Record-Setting Victory
Colin Yeaman extended the Frederick Keys’ lead to 9-5 in the top of the ninth inning with an RBI groundout. Braeden Sloan then retired the side in order in the bottom of the ninth to preserve the victory.
The result gave the Frederick Keys their 81st regular-season win, a new franchise record.

The Frederick Keys are scheduled to play game five of the series against the Brooklyn Cyclones on Saturday night at 6 p.m. at Maimonides Park on Coney Island.
