Navy’s Fortson: PL Scholar-Athlete of the Year

The Patriot League named Sydney Fortson, Navy’s junior goalkeeper, their Women’s Soccer Scholar-Athlete of the Year on Monday. The 5’9″ California native also won All-Academic Team and All-Patriot League Third Team honors.

In 20 games this year, Fortson posted a 0.85 goals against average and eight shutouts as the Mids finished the regular season with an 11-6-3 record. The 2016 Claremont High School grad also kept opponents to one or fewer goals in 16 of Navy’s games.

In the classroom, Fortson holds a 3.90 GPA in aerospace engineering. She also stands top-10 in the Naval Academy’s Class of 2020 in Military Order of Merit and top-30 in Overall Order of Merit.

Fortson adds Monday’s honors to a long list of collegiate awards, including:

Second Team CoSIDA Academic All-American (2017)
First Team CoSIDA All-Academic District II (2017)
2017 Patriot League Goalkeeper of the Year
Patriot League Academic Honor Roll (2016, 2017)

Navy finished its regular season Tuesday with 0-1 loss to Army in 2OT.
