Epstein Gets Six As Johns Hopkins Wins Plus Other Scores

The Johns Hopkins lacrosse team needed to beat Michigan yesterday to get some confidence before they play Maryland next week. The Blue Jays trailed 3-1 after a quarter but they won the second and third quarters 11-2 enroot to a 14-7 win. Joey Epstein scored 6 goals including three straight in the second quarter and 3 of the 4 extra man goals for the victors. JHU is now 1-1 on the season.

In Catonsville, UMBC scored three goals in the last four minutes to send their game with Mount St. Mary’s to overtime tied at 7. The Retrievers were able to pop the overtime face-off in the air and Mason Edwards caught it. Seconds later he scored to complete the comeback 8-7. UMBC is 1-0 while the Mount falls to 1-3.

Loyola rebounded from their loss to Virginia with a 20-8 win over Utah. Aidan Olmstead and Evan James had 5 goals apiece for the Hounds. Kevin Lindley added three. Sam Shafer had seven saves for the winners. Loyola improves to 2-1 and opens Patriot League play next weekend.

Towson used a 7-1 advantage in the third quarter to build a 9-6 lead over Richmond but the Spiders won the fourth quarter 5-1 and the game 11-10. Andrew Milani had a hat trick for the Tigers while Brody McLean added two goals and one assist. Towson only had 14 turnovers and went 2-2 on extra man. The Tigers fall to 2-3 and open CAA play at Drexel next Saturday.

Navy scored 9 straight goals from the second to the third quarter to beat Jacksonville 13-6. The Jarosz brothers starred for the Midshipmen. Jacob won 17 of 23 face-offs while Jon had a hat trick. The Dolphins led 4-1 after the first quarter and 5-2 before Navy started their run. The Midshipmen only turned it over 12 times. Navy is 2-0 and open Patriot League play next Saturday against Bucknell.
