The Delmarva Shorebirds defeated the Fredericksburg Nationals 7-6 on Aug. 29, 2026, in Salisbury, Maryland, after Carlos Sanchez hit a go-ahead RBI triple with two outs in the eighth inning. The victory marked Delmarva’s second consecutive win over Fredericksburg.
Delmarva entered the game with a 44-81 overall record and a 21-38 record in the relevant split. Fredericksburg entered at 73-51 overall and 27-31 in the same split.
Delmarva Shorebirds Build Early Lead
The Shorebirds scored the first two runs when a throwing error by Rafael Ramirez Jr. allowed both runners to score. Stiven Martinez followed with an RBI infield single that scored Ty Head and extended Delmarva’s lead to 3-0.
Collin McKinney made his home debut for Delmarva and threw three scoreless innings. The ninth-round pick from Arizona struck out three and allowed one baserunner on a hit.
Fredericksburg got on the board in the fifth inning when Coy James hit an RBI single. Delmarva answered in the bottom half of the inning with an RBI double from Adriander Mejia, restoring a three-run lead at 4-1.
Fredericksburg Nationals Tie the Game
Delmarva added two runs in the sixth inning on run-producing hits by Carlos Sanchez and Jemone Nuel. The rally gave the Shorebirds a 6-1 advantage, their largest lead of the game.
Fredericksburg erased that advantage in the seventh inning by scoring five runs on four hits and three walks. The outburst tied the game at 6-6.
The score remained tied until Carlos Sanchez delivered a decisive go-ahead RBI triple with two outs in the eighth inning, putting the Shorebirds back in front 7-6.
Adrian Heredia Records First Professional Save
Adrian Heredia preserved the victory for the Shorebirds by retiring the side in order with two strikeouts in the ninth inning. He recorded the first save of his professional career.
Isaac Silva earned the victory and moved to 1-0. Cesar Rojas took the loss for Fredericksburg and moved to 3-4.
The Delmarva Shorebirds close out the home season Sunday against the Fredericksburg Nationals while seeking a series split. First pitch is scheduled for 2:05 p.m.
