The Delmarva Shorebirds ended the 2026 season with a 14-3 loss to the Kannapolis Cannon Ballers on Sunday afternoon, September 6, in Kannapolis, North Carolina. Delmarva finished with a 45-87 overall record and a 22-44 mark in league play, while Kannapolis ended 71-61 overall and 38-28 in league play.
Kannapolis Cannon Ballers Build Early Lead
The Kannapolis Cannon Ballers scored four runs on five hits in the first inning to take a 4-0 lead. The deficit grew to 7-0 in the second inning after Alexander Albertus hit a three-run homer.
Kannapolis added four runs in the fourth inning after Stiven Flores, Alexander Albertus and Clay Burdette delivered three consecutive doubles. The Cannon Ballers won five of six games against the Delmarva Shorebirds.
Delmarva Shorebirds Score Three Runs
The Delmarva Shorebirds scored twice in the sixth inning on an RBI single by Stiven Martinez and a run-scoring groundout by Jhomnardo Reyes. Miguel Rodriguez added Delmarva’s third run with a sacrifice fly in the eighth inning.
Dalton Neuschwander threw three scoreless innings with four strikeouts in his final game of the year. Nick Weyrich, a reliever for Kannapolis, earned the win and improved to 3-1, while Esteban Mejia took the loss for Delmarva and finished 0-9 for the season.
Delmarva Shorebirds Set 2027 Opener
The Shorebirds finished the 2026 regular season with a 45-87 record. They will open the 2027 season at home against the Fredericksburg Nationals at Perdue Stadium on April 2.
