The Delmarva Shorebirds lost 12-5 to the Hickory Crawdads on Tuesday in Hickory, North Carolina. Delmarva built a 5-0 lead through three innings before Hickory scored 12 unanswered runs.
Delmarva Shorebirds Build Early Lead
Jemone Nuel drove in two runs with a first-inning single to give the Delmarva Shorebirds a 2-0 advantage. Nuel added another RBI in the third inning after being hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, extending the lead to 3-0.
Adriander Mejia followed with an RBI single, and Ty Head added a bases-loaded bunt single as Delmarva moved in front 5-0. The Shorebirds entered the game with a 41-74 overall record and an 18-31 record.
Hickory Crawdads Take Control
The Hickory Crawdads scored their first run in the fourth inning on a two-out RBI single by Daniel Flames. Hickory then scored six runs in the fifth inning to take a 7-5 lead.
Pablo Guerrero hit a three-run home run during the inning, and Sebastian Baquera doubled home two runs. Kaden Carpenter added a three-run home run as Hickory extended its advantage to 10-5.
The Hickory Crawdads scored two more runs in the seventh inning to complete the 12-5 victory. After scoring five runs in the first three innings, the Delmarva Shorebirds had four base runners over the final six innings.
Records and Next Game
Geury Rodriguez earned the win for Hickory with a 5-3 record. Dalton Neuschwander took the loss for Delmarva with a 1-12 record.
The Hickory Crawdads entered the game with a 67-45 overall record and a 33-16 record. The series continues Wednesday, with Holden deJong scheduled to start against Seong-Jun Kim of the Hickory Crawdads. First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. ET.
