D.C. United vs. Real Salt Lake Preview: March 16, 2019

D.C. United head home to face Real Salt Lake. Despite the tie last week in the Bronx, the Black-And-Red are still feeling strong this year, posting back-to-back shutouts with a win vs. Atlanta United and a draw at NYCFC. Can they do the same against the Claret and Cobalt?

Although the teams have identical 1-1-0 records, their standings are different. United is tied for the Conference lead with Columbus Crew and are content with a win and a draw. Goaltender Bill Hamid made ten epic saves against NYCFC and earned MLS Player of the Week honors last week. Real Salt Lake trails Seattle Sounders at 2-0-0 for the Western Conference, though have Marcello Silva as their hero. Rookie Sam Johnson may also see playing time to adjust to team dynamics.

If the Black-And-Red are to contend for a title, they need Wayne Rooney to step up. He does not need to dominate possession, but when he strikes, you know he wil ldo damage. D.C. United is strongest at home, so today will be the perfect opportunity to make some noise in the league. The match starts at 8:00 p.m.
