The 25th Major League Soccer season kicked off on Saturday afternoon at Audi Field as D.C. United hosted the Colorado Rapids. They had a 1-0 lead but blew it resulting in a 2-1 defeat. This game marked the debuts of Edison Flores and Julian Gressel, two new signings.
The first half was scoreless including a goal by United that was disallowed. After the teams came out of the locker room, the scoring began.
Russell Canouse headed in a corner from Gressel in the 60th minute to put the Black and Red up 1-0.
Kei Kamara scored the equalizer in the 67th minute. The Rapids took the lead in stoppage time with a goal from Jonathan Lewis to stun the crowd.
D.C. United will look to bounce back against Inter Miami on March 7 at 3:30.
