D.C. United Looks to Get Back on Track vs. Orlando City SC
D.C. United is back in action at Audi Field tonight at 8 p.m. to resume MLS action. After powering through the competition early on in the season to lead the Eastern Conference, the Black and Red have struggled to secure the always-important three points. After a thrilling 1-0 win over Sporting Kansas City just over one month ago, D.C. United has gone winless in their next five games before MLS action took an international break with the CONCAF Gold Cup still in action. Speaking of Gold Cup action, the difference in that game came off the foot of Paul Arriola who’s done very well representing the USMNT. Despite this, they still secured a point in four of the five matches with their lone loss coming to the Houston Dynamo.
Sitting tied with the Montreal Impact for second in the Eastern Conference but listed in third place in the standings, D.C. United embarks on a crucial two home matches at Audi Field. With a 7-6-4 record (27 points), the Black and Red trail the first place Philadelphia Union by four points.
Orlando City SC has had a down season with a 5-3-7 mark for 22 points which has them ninth in the standings. Both clubs previously met in Orlando back on March 31 in a game that saw D.C. United earn a 2-1 victory in a comeback effort.
Wayne Rooney led the charge with two penalty kick goals. It helped D.C. United with their early season surge to the top of the conference and was their first win on the road since May, 2018.
While MLS play took a hiatus for a few weeks, D.C. United was in the middle of U.S. Open Cup action when they hosted MLS conference foe New York City FC in the District. They suffered a 2-1 defeat with the lone goal coming from Rooney.
Every game matters in MLS league play and they’ll look forward to their passionate supporters to pack Audi Field for two critical matches. Their next game takes place on Saturday night against Toronto FC.
As for tonight, you can catch the game at 8 p.m. on FloFC.
