Coppin State University Women’s Volleyball’s Cherisse Atilano, Eva Rovello Earn MEAC Weekly Awards

Coppin State University women’s volleyball players Cherisse Atilano and Eva Rovello earned MEAC weekly honors on Sept. 14, 2026. Atilano received Player of the Week honors, while Rovello was named Setter of the Week after Coppin State went 3-0 at the Zips Invitational.

Cherisse Atilano Posts Three Double-Doubles

A sophomore from Guaynabo, Puerto Rico, Atilano recorded three double-doubles during Coppin State’s tournament run. She averaged 2.92 kills on .209 hitting, 2.85 digs and three aces across matches against Valparaiso, Akron and Cleveland State.

Atilano totaled 14 kills and 13 digs against Valparaiso, followed by 13 kills and 10 digs against Akron. She finished the tournament against Cleveland State with 11 kills, 14 digs and two aces.

The award marked Atilano’s first MEAC Player of the Week honor this season and the second of her career. At the time of the announcement, she ranked eighth in the MEAC in kills per set at 2.68, ninth in digs per set at 2.38 and fourth in points per set at 3.14.

Atilano also led the conference in total kills with 107 and total points with 125.5. She had 14 aces and 95 digs for the season at the time of the announcement.

Eva Rovello Directs Record-Setting Offense

Rovello, a junior setter from Vigneux de Bretagne, France, earned her second MEAC Setter of the Week award of the season. She averaged 8.69 assists and 2.23 digs at the Zips Invitational while recording nine kills, seven aces and 12 blocks.

Rovello posted double-doubles against Valparaiso with 35 assists and 10 digs and against Akron with 37 assists and 10 digs. She added 41 assists against Cleveland State, where Coppin State hit .383 for a school record that surpassed the previous mark established in 1992.

Rovello entered the week averaging a MEAC-best 8.75 assists per set. She also had five double-doubles, 2.15 digs per set, 31 kills on .400 hitting, 13 aces and 26 blocks for the season.

Coppin State University Women’s Volleyball Heads to UConn

Coppin State will compete in UConn’s For The White & Blue Tournament on Sept. 18-19 before playing at New Haven on Sunday, Sept. 20. Coppin State will face host UConn on Friday night, followed by matches against Rhode Island at 2:30 p.m. and Merrimack at 6:30 p.m. Saturday at UConn.

All three matches at UConn will be streamed on uconnhuskies.com. Coppin State enters the tournament after winning three consecutive matches.
