UMBC men’s basketball returns home tomorrow afternoon to face the UMass-Lowell River Hawks (14-12, 6-5) at the UMBC Event Center.

The Retrievers (16-10, 8-3) are coming off a road victory over Binghamton on Saturday afternoon.  They used a balanced attack, with four players scoring in double-digits, to win convincingly, 64-50.

UMBC maintained a slim lead throughout the majority of the game but pulled away late with two 3-pointers by graduate student forward Joe Sherburne.  It was UMBC’s fourth straight road victory and seventh in their last eight overall.

Sherburne leads UMBC in points per game, averaging 14.6 with junior guard K.J. Jackson chipping in 11.9.  The Retrievers continue to battle through injuries by concentrating on defense.  They allow just 64 points in conference games.

UMass-Lowell has won two of their last three, winning at UAlbany, 86-54, on Wednesday evening.  They are fifth in the America East conference standings.

Redshirt junior Christian Lutete leads the River Hawks in scoring, coming in at 19 points per game.  Sophomore guard Obadiah Noel (Frederick, Tuscarora HS) checks in with a ppg average of 14.8.  Redshirt senior Josh Gantz leads the team with 75 assists.

The Retrievers were defeated by the River Hawks, 74-63, on January 12th at Lowell in their previous meeting this season.
