The Chesapeake Baysox fell 6-4 to the Portland Sea Dogs on Saturday night at Prince Georges Stadium in Bowie, Maryland, despite Pat Reillys career-long start. The right-handed starter matched his Double-A career best with eight strikeouts and faced the minimum through seven innings before Portland rallied in the eighth.
The Chesapeake Baysox, the Double-A affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles, scored four runs in the first two innings. The Portland Sea Dogs, the Double-A affiliate of the Boston Red Sox, answered with five runs in the eighth inning to take the lead.
Pat Reilly Dominates Through Seven Innings
Reilly allowed three early hits but limited Portland after that initial traffic. A caught stealing in the first inning and ground-ball double plays in the third and fourth innings helped him face the minimum through seven.
Reilly returned for the eighth inning but exited after allowing a leadoff walk and a two-run home run by Ronald Rosario. The homer cut Chesapeakes lead to 4-2 and ended Reillys night.
Baysox Build Early Lead
Wehiwa Aloy opened the scoring in the first inning with an opposite-field solo home run to right field. It was Aloys ninth home run with the Baysox in 34 games and his 24th of the minor league season.
Dom Keegan and Griff OFerrall reached base in the second inning before Fernando Peguero delivered a two-out infield hit. A throwing error brought home a run, and Frederick Bencosme followed with a two-run double into right-center field to extend the lead to 4-0.
Portland Rallies in the Eighth
Right-hander Bradley Brehmer entered from the Chesapeake bullpen after Reillys exit and recorded one out. Portland then used a walk and three hits, including Tyler McDonoughs go-ahead two-run single, to take a 5-4 lead. Brooks Brannon added another run with a single later in the inning.
The Baysox were held to one hit after the third inning. Steven Brooks earned the win with one and two-thirds scoreless relief innings after Portland starter Alex Bouchard worked five innings, while Erik Rivera recorded his fourth save.
Chesapeake put the tying runs on base in the ninth inning when OFerrall singled and Vance Honeycutt drew a pinch-hit walk. Rivera retired three consecutive hitters to end the Baysox threat.
Chesapeake Baysox Set for Final Home Game
The Chesapeake Baysox were scheduled to conclude their 2026 regular-season home slate Sunday against Portland in the final game of the six-game series. Left-hander Sebastian Gongora was scheduled to start for Chesapeake with a 9-6 record and a 3.46 ERA.
First pitch was scheduled for 1:05 p.m. at Prince Georges Stadium.
