The Chesapeake Baysox defeated the Richmond Flying Squirrels 8-2 Thursday night at CarMax Park in Richmond, Virginia, as Anthony Eyanson struck out seven batters in four innings during his last scheduled start for Chesapeake in 2026. The victory was Chesapeake’s third consecutive game win over Richmond.
Chesapeake entered the game with a 37-28 record in the second half and a 66-67 overall mark. The Baysox, the Double-A affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles, built a 3-1 lead before a 74-minute rain delay interrupted play in the top of the fifth inning.
Anthony Eyanson Limits Richmond to One Run
Eyanson allowed one run on a second-inning solo home run by Richmond Flying Squirrels player Sabin Ceballos. He escaped a first-and-third, one-out situation later in the inning by snagging a one-hopper back to the mound to begin an inning-ending double play.
After Richmond put runners on second and third with one out in the third inning, Eyanson struck out the next two batters to strand both runners. He struck out the side in the fourth inning and fanned the final five batters he faced.
Frederick Bencosme Supplies the Early Lead
Richmond right-hander Niko Mazza retired the first seven Chesapeake hitters before Edwin Amparo walked with one out in the third inning. Tavian Josenberger followed with a double, and Frederick Bencosme then hit a three-run home run to the opposite field.
The home run was Bencosme’s 13th of the season and gave Chesapeake a 3-1 lead. Anderson De Los Santos led off the fifth inning with a double before the rain delay stopped the game.
De Los Santos scored after play resumed on consecutive groundouts, including Edwin Amparo’s first Double-A RBI. The run was charged to Mazza, who took the loss.
Chesapeake Baysox Score Five Runs After Rain Delay
Chesapeake added a run in the sixth inning when Tavian Josenberger drew a bases-loaded walk. The Baysox scored again in the seventh when Victor Figueroa reached on a bases-loaded hit by pitch.
Frederick Bencosme reached base for the fourth time with a ninth-inning walk, and Griff O’Ferrall followed with a single. Ethan Anderson then hit a two-run double to right field, giving Chesapeake five runs after the delay and completing the scoring.
Anderson had driven in seven runs through the first three games of the series in his home state of Virginia. The Richmond Flying Squirrels are the Double-A affiliate of the San Francisco Giants.
Chesapeake Bullpen Closes Out the Win
The Chesapeake bullpen allowed one run over the final five innings. Alex Pham earned the win after striking out the side in a scoreless inning.
Tyson Neighbors allowed one run over two innings, while Richard Guasch worked around a leadoff double in the eighth. Jeisson Cabrera pitched a perfect ninth inning.
Chesapeake Baysox Scheduled to Continue Series Friday
The Chesapeake Baysox were scheduled to continue their final series of the 2026 season against the Richmond Flying Squirrels on Friday, September 11, at 7:05 p.m. at CarMax Park.
JT Quinn was scheduled to start for Chesapeake against Richmond’s Jacob Bresnahan. Quinn was listed at 2-0 with a 2.50 ERA in Double-A, while Bresnahan was listed at 0-1 with a 9.00 ERA.

The Chesapeake Baysox overcame a lengthy rain delay with timely hitting and strong pitching. Eyanson provided seven strikeouts in four innings, Bencosme delivered the key early blow, and the bullpen allowed one run over the final five innings.
