The Chesapeake Baysox baseball team defeated the Harrisburg Senators 2-1 Tuesday night at FNB Field in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, as Anderson De Los Santos hit the tie-breaking solo home run in the top of the seventh inning. The Chesapeake Baysox, the Double-A affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles, entered the game with a 28-23 second-half record and a 57-61 overall mark.
De Los Santos led off the seventh inning with a solo shot against Harrisburg right-hander Kendeglys Virguez, who took the loss. De Los Santos also walked twice and reached base three times.
Caden Hunter and Chesapeake bullpen limit Harrisburg
Left-hander Caden Hunter started for Chesapeake in his fifth Double-A outing and struck out eight over five innings. Hunter allowed five hits, one run and two walks, with Branden Boissiere’s RBI single in the fifth inning accounting for Harrisburg’s only run.
Richard Guash earned the win after recording four outs in relief of Hunter. Alex Pham pitched two-thirds of an inning, and Gerald Ogando worked one inning as the Chesapeake bullpen combined for four scoreless innings.
Right-hander Jeisson Cabrera closed out the ninth inning for his fourth save. After Harrisburg put a runner on with a one-out double, Fernando Peguero made a leaping backhand catch in left field for the second out before Cabrera ended the game with a groundout to Anderson De Los Santos at third base.
Chesapeake Baysox score in the third inning
The Chesapeake Baysox opened the scoring during a two-out rally in the top of the third inning. Wehiwa Aloy doubled to left center, and Aron Estrada followed with an opposite-field RBI single to bring him home.
Ethan Anderson played his first game with the Baysox since July 5 after being reinstated from the injured list. Anderson went 1-for-4 and recorded a ninth-inning single, while Vance Honeycutt extended his hitting streak to five games to begin his Baysox career.
Chesapeake Baysox continue Harrisburg series
The Chesapeake Baysox will continue the series against the Harrisburg Senators on Wednesday night at FNB Field. Left-hander Joseph Dzierwa is scheduled to start for Chesapeake, while Harrisburg right-hander Jarlin Susana is listed for his Double-A season debut.
Wednesday’s first pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. The Baysox are scheduled to begin a six-game homestand against the Portland Sea Dogs on Tuesday, Sept. 1, at 6:35 p.m. The Portland Sea Dogs are the Double-A affiliate of the Boston Red Sox.
