After what was a tear jerker of a pregame ceremony in Washington DC, the Capitals took all that emotion an exploded for a touchdown and extra point against the Bruins and star goaltender Tuukka Rask. The last time the Penguins and Capitals played it was the second round of the playoffs. The game would go to over time where Evgeny Kuznetsov would in the words of the voice of the Capitals John Walton “exercise the demons” of the Penguins from seasons past and beat the Pens. A lead pass from Ovechkin to Kuznetsov would send him in between two defenders and slide the puck through five hole on a shift move that opened the legs of Matt Murray.

This is a new season however and the Capitals are coming off an offensive on slot that led to seven goals against the Bruins. The Caps would go four for six on the power play including at one point being four for four before missing on the last two chances. Kuznetsov would score both his tallys on the power play, Ovechkin and Carlson would each at a strike on the man advantage.

It was good to see Kuznetsov seeing some chances on the penalty kill as well. The Washington coaching staff wants to find a way to make Kuzy a well rounded players. With the loss of Jay Beagle as center and on the top pk line, the Caps are experimenting early to see who may be a good fit for the penalty kill lines.
