Capitals Finish Preseason at home with Columbus

Caps aim to finish preseason on a high note

The Washington Capitals head home for 1 last tune up game before the season gets underway. While most people look to next weeks matchup with the Pittsburgh Penguins with excitement, the focus is on tonight.

Tonight represents one last chance for guys to make an impression on the coaching staff. Now, Carbery might already have his guys picked out, but it’s fun to think about who could make the roster. My guess is that a majority of the roster is already set.

The hope is that the Caps will start giving opportunities to younger players. Guys like Connor McMichael, Matthew Phillips and Ivan Miroshnichenko could all very well make the team. The Caps have a lot of young guys that could potentially play a big part in their future success. With off-season addition Max Pacioretty sidelined until December it could happen.

The Caps are coming off a big win over the Blue Jackets 4-2 in their last meeting in Washington. The Caps got goals from Beck Malenstyn, Aliaksei Protas and Riley Sutter with a Hendrix Lappierre empty netter.

The Blue Jackets come into the contest with a 2-3 record. Their two wins coming over St Louis and Buffalo. The Blue Jackets open their season up next week against the Philadelphia Flyers. The Jackets’ offseason has been rough with the firing of head coach Mike Babcock before the season even started.

The Caps look to end the preseason on a high note tonight. Puck drop from Capital One set for 7 pm.
