Can Morgan State Spoil Norfolk State’s Homecoming?

Today, Morgan’s football team is scheduled to play against Norfolk State’s Spartans during their homecoming, in hope of breaking their five-game losing streak.

Both teams seek their first win in the MEAC conference, as they are both 0-1 in MEAC conference games.

The Bears lost to the North Carolina Central Eagles 16-10 last Saturday — their fifth loss of the season. The Bears have won only one game, which was against the Richmond Spiders on Sept. 2 and ended with the score 17-10. The Spartans have won two games, one against the Hampton Pirates and the other one against the Towson Tigers.

The Spartan come into this contest with the number four ranked scoring offense and defense in the MEAC. The Spartans offense averages 21.6 points per game and their defense allows 27.1 points per game. The Spartans junior quarterback Otto Kuhns is tied for number one in the conference in passing touchdowns with 11.  On the outside they have the number three receiver in yards Grad student Andre Pegues (291) and tied for second in receiving touchdowns Grad student Aaron Moore with three.

The Bears come into another game with the number one defense in the MEAC. Last week Morgan shut down the reigning MEAC player of the year Davius Richard and the number one offense in the MEAC holding the Eagles to 16 points and 201 yards.

Between the two teams the Spartans lead the all-time series 14-1 winning the last three matchups. Norfolk also won last year spoiling the homecoming of Morgan State 21-24.

Today’s game is scheduled to begin at 2p.m. in the Spartans’ William “Dick” Price Stadium.
