Bowie State University’s women’s and men’s cross-country teams each placed fourth at the VSU Cross Country Challenge on Sept. 25 at Randolph Farms in Petersburg, Virginia. Virginia State University hosted the meet, where Leilani Gibson finished fourth in the women’s 5K and Sean Trader placed eighth in the men’s 8K.
Bowie State women place fourth
The Bowie State University women’s cross-country team finished fourth with 82 points. Virginia Commonwealth University won the team competition with 20 points, followed by Regent University with 55 points. Virginia State University also scored 82 points and received third place under the meet’s scoring procedures.
Gibson led Bowie State with a fourth-place finish in the women’s 5K in 22:05.2, averaging 7:06.5 per mile. Emetem Bezezuh finished 10th in 23:16.8, while Destinie Mayo placed 17th in 25:16.4. Janelle Morrisey finished 22nd in 27:32.0, and Sydney Anderson completed the Bulldogs’ top five.
Bowie State’s top five runners combined for a team time of 2:09:41, averaging 25:56 per runner.
Sean Trader leads Bowie State men
The Bowie State University men’s cross-country team finished fourth overall with 102 points. Virginia Commonwealth University won the men’s competition with 23 points, followed by Virginia State University with 54 points and Regent University with 74 points.
Trader finished eighth overall in the men’s 8K in 30:16.4, averaging 6:05.4 per mile. Chase Garcia placed 13th in 32:18.3, followed by Tyon Fowlkes in 19th at 34:47.2. Tyler Bowling finished 35th in 38:48.2, and Jaieri Barber completed Bowie State’s scoring five with a 45th-place finish in 45:23.2.
The Bowie State men recorded a combined team time of 3:01:33, averaging 36:18 per runner.
Bulldogs prepare for remaining meets
Bowie State is scheduled to compete at the Bison Invitational hosted by Howard University before turning its attention to the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association Championship later in the season.
