Bowie Baysox Weekly Recap: 4/18 to 4/22

The Bowie Baysox open this week with a 5-3 record looking to stay above .500 and hopefully have a lead in the division by the week’s end. Here is the weekly recap from each of the games.

Game 1: 4/14/18 Bowie 15 Harrisburg 6, Hunter Harvey starts the game, going 2 innings, allowing 1 run, with 1 strikeout. As the year goes on expect Hunter Harvey to get more innings on the mound but for now to ease him into a regular workload, it will just be short starts. Christian Binford comes in, allowing 5 runs (4 ER), Lucas Long and Paul Fry also came in to get some work, Fry earning the win. The offense comes in the clutch scoring 1 run to tie in the 9th and 9 runs in the 10th to win the game! The first basemen Corban Joseph ends up with 5 RBIs and 5 hits in the game. He is the player of the game.

The player of the game in this Baysox loss is Corban Joseph (3-4, 2B, BB)

Game 3: 4/17/18 Bowie 0 Richmond 1: The offense only puts together 4 hits and scores no runs. Despite the loss, the pitching staff still managed to keep the offense in the game all 9 innings. Game 4: 4/18/18: Bowie 0 Richmond 1
Once again the offense doesn’t perform but the pitching keeps the Baysox in the game. Jordan Kipper is the player of the game in this one going 8 innings, 1 earned run, and striking out 3.

Game 5: 4/19/18 Bowie 6 Richmond 1: The Baysox offense finally shows up again scoring 6 runs and putting up 10 hits as a team. Austin Hays homers and hopefully this is where he starts to get hot and return to 2017 form. Keegan Akin took a step in the right direction going 6 innings, striking out 7, and only allowing 1 earned run. Hopefully Akin has adjusted to Double A and he can pitch like that the rest of the season. Keegan Akin is the player of the game for this one.

Game 6: 4/20/18: Akron 3 Bowie 5
Hunter Harvey pitches the first 2.1 innings, allowing no runs on 2 hits and 2 walks. Matthew Grimes, newly acquired Luis Ysla, and Luis Gonzalez finish the job with Ysla getting the win and Gonzalez getting the save. Martin Cervenka and Ademar Rifaela stay hot each with multi hit games. The player of the game goes to Ademar Rifaela (2-3, 2 RBIs, 1 BB)

Game 8: 4/22/18 Akron 9 Bowie 4
John Means does not pitch well allowing 6 earned runs in only 4.2 innings. Lucas Long also allows 3 earned runs out of the pen. Audry Perez, the catcher, goes 3-4 with 3 RBIs. The player of the game is Audry Perez.

The Bowie Baysox finish this week with a 9-7 record and of course look to improve, this was not the week the Baysox had hoped for. The offense will need to stay more consistent to win more games.
