Bernhardt Makes History as #3 Maryland Beats #19 Penn State 17-10

It feels like I say this every game, but this Maryland team is just something special. Through seven games they are undefeated and have pretty much dominated every game so far. The biggest factor to Maryland’s dominance has been their senior star, Jared Bernhardt. Today, Bernhardt cemented himself as one of the greatest Maryland players of all time, becoming the all-time leading goal scorer with 1:39 left in the first half. That goal was a part of the run that helped the Terps pull away from Penn State.

It took a while for Maryland to get on the board today. Their first goal didn’t come until there were six minutes left in the first quarter, nine minutes into the game. But once they got that first one, the Terps looked like their regular selves. Maryland was able to take a 6-2 lead with 8:38 left in the first quarter. After that, Penn State scored two of their own but then came Maryland’s signature slaughter. Seven Straight goals followed for Maryland including Bernhardt’s history maker, and a buzzer-beater at the end of the first half.

The run put Maryland up 13-4 but came to an end with 9:51 left in the 3rd quarter as Penn State then scored three of their own to make it 13-7. The two teams’ stars then went back and forth with O’Keefe and Bernhardt both scoring to make it 14-8. But then Maryland offense woke back up, scoring three more goals, two of which came off of Bernhardt assists. In addition to the goals record today from Bernhardt, he also tied his personal points in a game record at 8.

Penn State then scored two goals with the backups on to make the final score 17-10 Maryland. The Terps will be back in action next week at Michigan at 1pm. the game will be on BTN+.
