Baltimore Orioles acquire Tyler Nevin from Detroit in exchange for cash considerations.
The Baltimore Orioles welcomed a familiar face back to Camden Yards on Monday. Former Orioles infielder Tyler Nevin was dealt from the Detroit Tigers to the Baltimore Orioles in exchange for cash considerations.
The 26-year-old hit .200/.306/.316 in short stints with the Tigers in 2023. Nevin also hit two home runs and 10 RBIs with 12 walks in 41. He was absent for Detroit’s spring training and the start of the regular season with a left oblique strain.
Nevin had an impressive stint with the Tigers triple-A affiliate Toledo Mudhens last season. He slashed .326/.400/.543 and 15 home runs in 87 games with the Mudhens. Nevin had stints with Baltimore in three of his first nine seasons before being dealt to Colorado in 2020. He was originally drafted by the Rockies in 2015 out of Poway high school in California. His father Phil Nevin is a former manager of the Los Angeles Angels.
It’s unclear where the O’s will use Nevin with the current backlog in the infield. Baltimore does gain a respectable player who’s been in the system before with Brandon Hyde at the helm.
