Anthony Rendon will not attend All-Star Game in Cleveland

Washington Nationals third baseman Anthony Rendon will not be attending the MLB All-Star Game in Cleveland, Ohio, this year.

Rendon has cited an injury and a need to rest during the All-Star Break so that he can be ready for the second half of the regular season.

As of tonight, Rendon has started in 53 games since his return from the injured list on May 7, and he has slashed .310/395/.627 in 72 games this season.

Max Muncy of the Los Angeles Dodgers will replace Rendon at the Mid-Summer Classic. Barring any other All-Star roster changes before next week, Max Scherzer will be the Nationals’ only representative in Cleveland.
