Hailey Mertz and Louis Finnegan of the Stevenson University Mustangs received Middle Atlantic Conference weekly awards for performances from Oct. 26 through Nov. 2, 2026. Mertz earned MAC Commonwealth Offensive Player of the Week honors for women’s field hockey, while Finnegan was named MAC Defensive Player of the Week in men’s ice hockey.
The conference announced its weekly award recipients Nov. 3, 2026, in Newtown, Pa. The awards recognized 27 student-athletes, including Mertz of No. 5 field hockey and Finnegan of Stevenson University men’s ice hockey.
Hailey Mertz Powers Stevenson University Field Hockey
Mertz totaled nine points during a 2-0 week for the Stevenson University Mustangs. The team earned wins over Hood and Eastern University during the award period.
Mertz scored one goal against Hood before recording seven points against Eastern University. Her performance included a hat trick, an assist and the game-winning goal.
Louis Finnegan Helps Stevenson University Men’s Ice Hockey Start 2-0
Finnegan helped the Stevenson University Mustangs open the season 2-0 with wins over SUNY Brockport and Nazareth University. He made 29 saves and posted a .935 save percentage in a 4-2 season-opening win over SUNY Brockport.
Finnegan followed with 20 saves and a .952 save percentage in a 5-1 victory over Nazareth University. Across the two games, he totaled 49 saves, a .942 save percentage and a 1.50 goals-against average while allowing three goals in 120 minutes.
