South Carolina Stingrays Trade Luka Burzan to New Mexico Goatheads for Cash Considerations

The South Carolina Stingrays traded forward Luka Burzan to the New Mexico Goatheads for cash considerations, the ECHL club announced. Burzan, 26, signed with South Carolina on July 7 after playing in Europe for the majority of the previous three seasons.

The South Carolina Stingrays are affiliates of the NHL’s Washington Capitals and the AHL’s Hershey Bears. Burzan’s departure comes as South Carolina prepares to open its 2026-27 season against the Jacksonville Icemen.

Luka Burzan’s European Experience

Burzan played for UTE of Erste Liga, Hungary’s top league, during the previous season. He recorded 23 points, including 12 goals and 11 assists, in 30 games.

Before joining UTE, Burzan played five games for HK Dukla Trencin in Slovakia’s Extraliga during the 2024-25 season. He also played 35 games for the Odense Bulldogs in Metal Ligaen, Denmark’s top league.

South Carolina Stingrays Schedule 2026-27 Opener

The South Carolina Stingrays are scheduled to begin the 2026-27 season on Friday, October 16, at 7 p.m. at the VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena in Jacksonville, Florida, against the Jacksonville Icemen.

South Carolina will host the Greenville Swamp Rabbits for Opening Night on Saturday, October 17, at 6:05 p.m. at the North Charleston Coliseum. The game is presented by MUSC Health.

Maryland Sports Blog Take

The South Carolina Stingrays received cash considerations in exchange for Luka Burzan. His 23-point season with UTE and experience in Europe provide the verified context for the transaction while South Carolina moves forward without the 26-year-old forward.
