Preview: Ravens Look to Maintain First Place in AFC North Against Browns

The Baltimore Ravens set their sight on an AFC North division showdown as they travel to Huntington Bank Field to take on the Cleveland Browns on Sunday. The Ravens enter Week six riding high at 4–1 after a gritty 30–23 overtime victory over the Atlanta Falcons last Sunday night, and securing their third consecutive win. While the Cleveland Browns return home looking to rebound following a tough 17–12 loss at the hands of the New York Jets. The Ravens and Browns currently sit number one and two atop the AFC north division standings, with the Ravens looking to maintain first place, while the Browns look to be in first place this late in the season for the first time since 2014.

The Ravens will again be without star quarterback Lamar Jackson for the second straight week as he continue to recover from an ankle injury, Tyler Huntley who led the Ravens to that improbable overtime victory last week will get his second straight start. Center Cam Jurgens (concussion) has also been ruled out for the second straight week meaning he will have to wait to at least one more week before making his official Ravens debut. Defensive tackle Broderick Washington (ankle) is the only other Ravens that has officially been ruled out ahead of Sunday. Guards Emery Jones (ankle) and Andrew Vorhees (foot) are listed as questionable after being limited in practice all week. Wide receiver Ja’Kobi Lane (wrist) is also listed as questionable as he looks to return to the Ravens lineup after missing the last four weeks on injured reserve.

For the Browns defensive tackle Kalia Davis (quad), guard Teven Jenkins (back), running back Dylan Sampson (knee), and backup quarterback Dillon Gabriel (back) have all been ruled out. Defensive end Derek Barnett (ankle), defensive tackle Mason Graham (knee/ankle), linebacker Carson Schwesinger (ankle), and running back Quinshon Judkins (ankle) are all listed as questionable.

Players to Watch:

Marlon Humphrey

It hasn’t necessarily been the start to 2026 that Ravens cornerback Marlon Humphrey has wanted. Humphrey has regularly been targeted allowing just over 40 yards per game with only three pass breakups and no interceptions. Health has also been a bit of a struggle as nagging injuries including a calf injury last week has limited his snap count in several games.

But Humphrey will be a pivotal piece in the Ravens secondary this Sunday as he goes against Cleveland’s shifting receiver sets. Ravens head coach Jesse Minter is looking for improvement from his teams defense particularly on third down with Humphrey needing to step up on Sunday as he will be the one that is most likely to be targeted.

Denzel Boston

Cleveland’s second-round draft pick out of Washington, rookie wide receiver Denzel Boston has quickly emerged as the Browns’ premier deep threat. Boston leads all NFL rookies in receiving yards, yards per catch (20.6), and receiving touchdowns through five games. With his dynamic play making ability he has quickly become the go to target for Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson and a target that former Ravens offensive coordinator turned Brown head coach Todd Monken, will look to utilize early and often on Sunday.

Boston who stands at an impressive 6’4″, has elite speed making him a constant threat on vertical routes. Matching up against the Ravens cornerbacks on Sunday will be Boston’s biggest test so far in his young career, but expect Boston to be up for the task as he looks to continue his impressive start to his NFL career.

Prediction:

It will be the second straight week of Tyler Huntley under center for the Ravens, and while the expectation was low last Sunday night for the Ravens against the Atlanta Falcons, it seems as though expectations have no risen after the impressive performance by Huntley and this Ravens offense even with the absence of Lamar Jackson. Huntley will surly have to utilize his cool, calm demeanor on Sunday as he looks to move the Ravens to 5-1 which would mark their best start to a season since 2012.

It always seems to be a struggle for the Ravens when they travel to Cleveland as they are just 4-4 agains the Browns in Cleveland since 2018. Mistakes, turnovers, and miscues always seem to plaque the Ravens when the hit the road to Cleveland, and a slow start again like they had last Sunday night could mean disaster for the Ravens as they look to maintain their first place AFC north lead over these very same Browns. The positive for the Ravens is this 2026 version of the Browns defense is not what they are normally accustomed to. All-Pro defensive end Myles Garrett is now a member of the Rams, and with it the Browns have slipped to being a middle of the pack defense.

With the Browns inability to rush the ball themselves offensively and Deshaun Watson’s struggles over the last few weeks, I expect this Browns defense to be on the field a lot which bodes for a Ravens offense that will look to control time of possession and lean on Derrick Henry and their run game much like they did last Sunday night. I expect Henry to have an even bigger workload than last week, and I expect him to once again rush for over 100 yards while finding the end zone at least twice. As long as Huntley can continue to be a solid game manager, making the necessary throws when needed without putting the ball into harms way. I expect the Ravens to walk out of Cleveland with a decisive 27-17 victory.
