Bowie State University Athletics: Bowie State Bulldogs Men’s Football Shuts Out Winston-Salem 21-0

Bowie State Bulldogs men’s football defeated Winston-Salem 21-0 on Oct. 10, 2026, at Bowman-Gray Stadium in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. The victory extended Bowie State’s winning streak to three games and improved the Bulldogs to 3-3 overall and 3-1 in CIAA play.

Bowie State scored all 21 points after halftime, breaking a scoreless game with four scoring drives from the third quarter into the fourth. The Bulldogs’ defense recorded three interceptions, three fumble recoveries and three sacks while holding Winston-Salem to 223 total yards, including 85 passing yards.

Bowie State opened the second half with a 65-yard scoring drive. Joshuah Keith converted a third down, and Maximus Jones added a 37-yard run before Jaylin Solomon finished the possession with a 19-yard touchdown run at 8:55 of the third quarter. Peter Lipscombe’s extra point gave the Bulldogs a 7-0 lead.

Winston-Salem moved to midfield on its next possession, but Aaron Anderson intercepted Brayden Jeffries at the Bowie State 25-yard line. Later, Khalil Travers intercepted Jeffries at the Winston-Salem 20 and returned the ball 11 yards to the 9, setting up Maximus Jones’ 9-yard touchdown run with 2:59 remaining.

Michael Thompson III added the final touchdown with a 39-yard interception return at 1:06. Lipscombe made the extra point, and Santino Howard recovered a late Winston-Salem fumble as Bowie State completed the 21-0 shutout.

Bowie State Defense Controls the Game

The Bulldogs limited Winston-Salem to 3.5 yards per play and held the Rams to 0-for-2 on red-zone scoring chances. Bowie State also scored 14 points off turnovers while the Rams failed to put points on the board during either red-zone opportunity.

Thompson recorded five tackles, 1.5 sacks, a forced fumble and his 39-yard interception return for a touchdown. Ashton Mayeux led Bowie State with 10 tackles, while Anderson finished with four tackles and an interception.

Bowie State’s ground game produced 219 yards and two rushing touchdowns. Jones led the Bulldogs with 76 rushing yards and one touchdown on 11 carries.

Next Game for Bowie State Bulldogs Men’s Football

Bowie State will host Virginia Union University at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 17, 2026, in Bowie, Maryland, for Gold Rush Day. The game follows the Bulldogs’ third consecutive victory and their 3-1 start in league play.
