Johns Hopkins University Women’s Soccer Beats Washington College 4-1 for Dan Weiler’s 99th Win

Johns Hopkins University women’s soccer defeated Washington College, 4-1, on Oct. 10 in Chestertown, MD, giving head coach Dan Weiler his 99th victory at Johns Hopkins. The 22nd-ranked Blue Jays improved to 9-1-2 overall and 5-1 in Centennial Conference play with their fifth consecutive win.

Washington College dropped to 5-6-1 overall and 0-4 in conference play. All five of Johns Hopkins’ victories during its winning streak have come in Centennial Conference competition.

Johns Hopkins Builds Early Lead for Season-High Four Goals

Johns Hopkins scored twice in each half, producing a season-high four goals. Carolyn Johnson opened scoring 9:29 into the match, and Caroline Marcus doubled the lead in the final minute of the first half.

Marcus scored again in the 52nd minute to give the Blue Jays a 3-0 advantage. Washington College answered in the 69th minute when Ruby Lane scored on an assist from Kaileigh Brady, but Johns Hopkins restored its three-goal lead four minutes later.

Gwen Rauvola scored the Blue Jays’ fourth goal in the 73rd minute on an assist from Addi Dauler. Johns Hopkins finished with a 20-9 advantage in shots and took five of the game’s seven corner kicks.

Johns Hopkins goalkeeper Ella Kruntchev made one save in the victory. Washington College goalkeeper Olivia Allen made eight saves in just under 73 minutes before departing the match after the Rauvola goal.

Dan Weiler Nears Johns Hopkins Coaching Milestone

Weiler’s Johns Hopkins coaching record stands at 99-14-12 since he took over in March 2020 (the 2021 season was his first due to a COVID pandemic delay). He needs one more victory to reach 100 wins at Johns Hopkins. His next opportunity will be Oct. 17 when the Blue Jays host Franklin & Marshall at Homewood Field at 4 p.m.

With one more win, Weiler would also reach 100 victories at both Concordia Morehead and Christopher Newport. This achievement would make him the first soccer coach in NCAA history — at any level of men’s or women’s soccer — to win 100 games at three different schools.
