BALTIMORE, Md. — Johns Hopkins University Athletics women’s field hockey defeated 10th-ranked Franklin & Marshall, 2-1, in double overtime on Oct. 9, 2026. Sarah Chilton scored the winning penalty stroke 1:42 into the second overtime, lifting Johns Hopkins to the Centennial Conference victory. The result improved Johns Hopkins to 8-4 overall and 4-1 in conference play, while Franklin & Marshall fell to 8-3 overall and 2-2 in the conference.
Sarah Chilton Ends Double-Overtime Match
Franklin & Marshall opened the scoring with 3:55 remaining in the second quarter. Megan Dadio dribbled inside the circle and fired a shot to the back post, giving the Diplomats a 1-0 lead.
Johns Hopkins tied the game with 1:27 remaining in the third quarter. Sophia Builione inserted a penalty corner to Caeli Robinson, who took one touch before sending a shot inside the left post.
The teams remained tied through the fourth quarter and first overtime. Jessica Lapidus made five saves through the second half and overtime, while Emi Hakutani made a defensive save for Johns Hopkins.
Meghan Dole made two saves in the first overtime for Franklin & Marshall and finished with eight saves. In the second overtime, An Tran drew the penalty stroke that created the winning opportunity, and Sarah Chilton converted against Dole to secure the victory.
Johns Hopkins Holds Statistical Edge
Johns Hopkins finished with a 17-16 advantage in shots and an 11-4 edge in penalty corners. Aubrey Kilgore made three saves in the first half before Lapidus handled goalkeeping duties in the second half and overtime.
Chilton’s winning goal was her fifth penalty stroke goal of the season, tying the Johns Hopkins single-season record. The victory came against a Franklin & Marshall team ranked 10th nationally.
Johns Hopkins Women’s Field Hockey Schedule
Johns Hopkins is scheduled to host fifth-ranked Williams on Oct. 11, 2026, at noon in a nonconference game. The Blue Jays are also scheduled to play at McDaniel on Oct. 14 at 7 p.m.
Johns Hopkins is scheduled to play at Washington College on Oct. 21 at 7 p.m. The team will then host Haverford on Oct. 24 at noon and Gettysburg on Oct. 28 at 5 p.m.
