Johns Hopkins University’s women9s volleyball defeated Dickinson, 3-1, on Oct. 7 at the Kline Center in Carlisle, Pennsylvania, for its sixth consecutive victory. The Blue Jays won 25-12, 23-25, 25-19 and 25-22 to improve to 9-5 overall and 2-0 in Centennial Conference play.
Johns Hopkins Takes Three Sets
Johns Hopkins controlled the opening set and closed it with a Nicole Tuszynski service ace and a Dickinson attack error. Dickinson responded with a 25-23 second-set win to even the match.
The Blue Jays answered in the third set, taking an early lead before Josephine Kinlan9s service ace helped extend the advantage. Ella Wismer closed the frame with a kill as Johns Hopkins secured a 25-19 win and a 2-1 match lead.
Dickinson built a 14-11 lead in the fourth set. Johns Hopkins responded with four consecutive points, including two aces from Sami Hockers, to take the lead. A block by Kinlan and Wismer helped the Blue Jays build a 21-17 advantage, and Ivy Swafford finished the match with back-to-back kills in a 25-22 set victory.
Ivy Swafford Leads the Attack
Swafford led all players with 18 kills, while Annika Anderson recorded a match-high 22 assists. Emma Wang, Bethany Sherwood and Wismer each contributed four blocks as Johns Hopkins limited Dickinson to a .016 hitting percentage.
Johns Hopkins Women9s Volleyball Schedule
Johns Hopkins will host Ursinus on Oct. 10 at 1 p.m. in Goldfarb Gymnasium for its annual Dig Pink match. The listed schedule also includes home matches against Swarthmore on Oct. 14 at 7 p.m., Franklin and Marshall on Oct. 17 at 1 p.m. and Salisbury on Oct. 24 at 1 p.m., along with a visit to McDaniel on Oct. 21 at 7 p.m.
