McDaniel Men’s Soccer Beats Stevenson 2-1 with Nicholas Clarke Leading the Way

McDaniel men’s soccer defeated Stevenson 2-1 in a non-conference match Tuesday at the Soccer Complex in Westminster, Maryland. Sophomore Nicholas Clarke scored the game-winning goal and recorded an assist, helping McDaniel snap a three-game losing streak and maintain its unbeaten record against Stevenson.

Nicholas Clarke contributes to both McDaniel goals

Clarke finished with three points, assisting on McDaniel’s opening goal and scoring the decisive goal in the 60th minute. His game-winner was his team-leading eighth goal of the season.

He has recorded at least one point in six of McDaniel’s 11 games this season and has scored in each of those six contests. His first contribution Tuesday came in the 13th minute, when senior Eyuel Reta scored his second goal of the season and fifth of his career off Clarke’s assist.

Stevenson tied the match less than four minutes into the second half when Blest Dumbuya scored his fourth goal of the season. Gaston Magrinat-Valdes assisted on the goal.

McDaniel protects its lead

McDaniel held a 14-12 advantage in shots and a 5-3 edge in saves. The Green Terror also led 9-4 in corner kicks.

First-year goalkeeper Gavin Yartymyk made five saves, including four in the first half. David O’Donnell hit the crossbar before Yartymyk made his fifth save, after which Clarke put McDaniel back in front.

McDaniel did not allow another shot on goal during the final 30 minutes. Stevenson fell to 6-3-2 overall.

Upcoming matchup with Muhlenberg

McDaniel is scheduled to travel to Muhlenberg on Saturday for a 7 p.m. match. The teams played to a scoreless draw in Westminster last year and previously met in the 2024 Centennial Conference Men’s Soccer Championship, where Muhlenberg won 1-0.
