University of Maryland, Baltimore County Retrievers Women’s Soccer received two America East Conference honors on Oct. 5, with sophomore defender Hailey Ahmed named Defensive Player of the Week and freshman forward Brooke Clagett selected as Rookie of the Week.
Ahmed earned the first weekly honor of her career after helping the Retrievers record shutout victories over NJIT and UAlbany. The center back also scored her third goal of the season and added an assist in the victory over UAlbany, contributing offensively as well as defensively.
Hailey Ahmed Earns First Career Honor
Ahmed played a key role in securing two shutouts during the week and added offensive contributions in the victory over UAlbany with a goal and an assist. This award marked the first career accolade for the sophomore defender for UMBC.
Brooke Clagett Earns Third Rookie of the Week Honor
Clagett earned America East Conference Women’s Soccer Rookie of the Week honors for the third time this season. She assisted on the game-winning goal against NJIT and scored the game-winning goal against UAlbany. Clagett leads the America East with four game-winning goals and ranks tied for fourth overall in points, averaging 1.000 points per game. Her six goals are just one off the league lead.
UMBC Enters Next Match in Second Place
The Retrievers stood second in the America East standings with nine points at the time of the announcement. UMBC had won three consecutive league contests, held a 3-1 conference record, and posted a 9-3-2 overall record. One more victory would give UMBC its first double-digit win season since the 2014 campaign, when the team finished 12-4-3. The three conference victories were also UMBC’s most since 2015, when the Retrievers went 3-3-2.
The Retrievers are scheduled to host Binghamton in women’s soccer on Oct. 11, 2026, at 1 p.m.
