Frostburg State University men’s soccer played West Virginia Wesleyan to a 0-0 home draw Sunday afternoon in Frostburg, Md. Frostburg State held an 8-5 advantage in shots on goal in the Mountain East Conference match.
Frostburg State entered the match with a 5-2-4 record, while West Virginia Wesleyan entered at 0-8-2. Frostburg State goalkeeper Josiah Emerson made a save with one second remaining to preserve the scoreless result.
Frostburg State creates chances
Nate Kennedy recorded Frostburg State’s first attempt at goal when West Virginia Wesleyan goalkeeper Lucas Fry gathered his header. Inzaghi Harmon sent a volley high, Brian Gomez dragged a shot wide after Mateo Cuadros played him into the box, and Kennedy later sliced an attempt wide after Frank Stare delivered a cross from the left wing.
Josiah Emerson made a sprawling save for Frostburg State during the opening half. West Virginia Wesleyan also sent an attempt high over the bar, and the teams remained scoreless at halftime.
Frostburg State generated additional opportunities after halftime. Dom Good beat a defender before finding Kennedy, whose goal-bound effort was blocked, while Abdallah Soulemana had two headers saved by Fry. Good also sent a left-footed shot over the bar.
Anthony Diaz fired high, while efforts from Lynghton Romage, Kevin Garcia-Torres and Mateo Cuadros were blocked before reaching Fry.
Late saves preserve scoreless draw
David Williams had a late chance for Frostburg State, but Fry denied him in the final three minutes. Soulemana and Williams then had consecutive efforts parried away as Fry helped West Virginia Wesleyan preserve the shutout.
Emerson made two important saves during the closing stages. With one second remaining, West Virginia Wesleyan received a free kick 20 yards from goal, but Emerson tipped the shot over the bar to keep the match scoreless.

Frostburg State University men’s soccer is scheduled to play at Shawnee State on Sunday, Oct. 11, at 2:30 p.m. The match will be Frostburg State’s next contest after the 0-0 draw.
