Johns Hopkins University Athletics has appointed Michael Hyde as senior associate director of athletics for capital projects and facilities. Hyde officially began his tenure at Johns Hopkins on Oct. 1, 2026, and will oversee capital projects and improvements for the department’s athletic facilities.
Jennifer S. Baker, Johns Hopkins’ associate vice provost for student affairs and director of athletics and recreation, announced the appointment. Hyde will manage the scoping, planning and scheduling of projects, oversee facility budgets and serve as the department’s main point of contact with several on-campus partners.
Michael Hyde’s Responsibilities at Johns Hopkins
Hyde will direct a team that includes one associate director, one assistant director, facility and event specialists, interns and student employees. He also will assist with revenue-generation opportunities through facility rentals, camps, clinics and other events hosted by the department.
Hyde’s Facility Management Background
Hyde joins Johns Hopkins University Athletics after two years at Georgia State University, where he served as associate director of recreation facilities. He oversaw more than 200,000 square feet of indoor facilities and outdoor space at the Panthersville Recreation Complex, while supervising a full-time staff of 11 and managing budget operations for department facilities and aquatic operations.
Before joining Georgia State University, Hyde spent nine years at Emory University. He served as assistant director of athletic facilities for three years before spending six years as associate director of athletic facilities, overseeing scheduling, maintenance and project management across Emory’s facilities.
Hyde also served on host operations teams for NCAA Championship events in swimming, track and field, volleyball and basketball while at Emory. He began his career at the University of South Carolina, where he held facility positions from 2003 through 2015.
Michael Hyde’s Education
Hyde graduated from VCU in 2002 with a degree in health, physical education and exercise science. He earned a master’s degree from VCU in sport leadership with a concentration in sport management in 2003.
