Stevenson University Men’s Soccer Loses MAC Commonwealth Opener 4-0 to Messiah

Stevenson University men’s soccer opened Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth play with a 4-0 loss to Messiah on Oct. 3 at Shoemaker Field in Grantham, Pa. Stevenson fell to 6-2-2 overall and 0-1 in conference play, while Messiah improved to 8-1-1 overall and 1-0 in the MAC Commonwealth.

Messiah Takes Control Before Halftime

Messiah scored in the 11th minute when Elijah Perry finished a chance assisted by Sam Phillips. Stevenson responded with attempts from Gaston Magrinat-Valdes and Nick Gervase over the next six minutes but could not equalize.

The Mustangs then fell behind 2-0 in the 35th minute when Owen Resch converted a penalty kick. Carter Gourley, Michael Bosley and Landon Eaton each recorded shots before halftime, yet Messiah carried a 2-0 advantage into the break.

Messiah Adds Two Second-Half Goals

Stevenson started the second half aggressively, generating three shots and a corner kick within the first two minutes. Magrinat-Valdes recorded two of those attempts, while Bosley added another, as Stevenson searched for its first goal.

Messiah extended its lead in the 75th minute on its second penalty kick of the match, scored by Matt Schumacher. Less than four minutes later, Davis Rody added the Falcons’ fourth goal, assisted by Perry.

Kameron Ross recorded Stevenson’s lone shot on goal in the 79th minute, but Messiah’s goalkeeper made the save. Stevenson finished with 11 total shots, including six in the second half. Magrinat-Valdes led Stevenson with three shots, while Bosley and Eaton added two each.

Andrew Sindicic played all 90 minutes in goal and made four saves. With the 4-0 loss, Stevenson is 0-1 in MAC Commonwealth play.

Stevenson University Returns at McDaniel College

Stevenson University returns to action at McDaniel College on Oct. 6 at 4 p.m. The match will be Stevenson’s next opportunity to earn its first MAC Commonwealth win of the season.

Stevenson University produced 11 shots, including six in the second half, but Messiah held a 9-1 edge in shots on goal. Messiah converted two penalty kicks and added goals from Elijah Perry and Davis Rody in the 4-0 victory.
