University of Maryland, Baltimore County Men’s Swimming & Diving opened the season with victories over American and VMI in a double dual meet at the UMBC Aquatic Complex on October 3, 2026. UMBC defeated American 231-66 and VMI 187.50-112.50.
Braden Weise won three events for UMBC. He captured the 50 freestyle in 20.47 and the 100 freestyle in 45.76 before joining Quinn Marchionini, Matthew So and Axel Mori on the winning 200 medley relay team, which finished in 1:33.14.
UMBC Men’s Swimming & Diving Wins Multiple Events
Felipe Taveira Lira won the 200 freestyle in 1:42.28, while freshman Turner Wiand won both backstroke events. Wiand took first in the 100 backstroke in 50.90 and the 200 backstroke in 1:53.83. Quinn Marchionini finished second in the 100 backstroke in 52.08, followed by Nick Bracall in 53.69.
James Tao won the 200 breaststroke in 2:10.03, and Matthew So took first in the 100 butterfly in 50.26. Taveira Lira, Tyler Kay and Tao finished first, second and third in the 200 individual medley with times of 1:54.60, 1:56.48 and 1:58.53, respectively.
UMBC Dominates 1-Meter and 3-Meter Diving Events
Kaleb Cave, Grant Moore and Aidan O’Callaghan finished first, second and third, respectively, in the 3-meter diving event. Cave won with 287.95 points, followed by Moore with 277.90 and O’Callaghan with 255.75.
Grant Moore won the 1-meter event with 279.05 points. Anders Logas placed second with 268.25 points, Kaleb Cave finished third with 260.70 points and Aidan O’Callaghan took fourth with 255.30 points.
UMBC Men’s Swimming & Diving Travel to Navy Next Weekend
UMBC will compete at Navy next weekend against Navy and William & Mary. The meet is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m.
