Howard Community College Women’s Volleyball Sweeps Patrick Henry College Behind Zyon Austin’s 13 Kills

Howard Community College women’s volleyball swept Patrick Henry College 3-0 on Oct. 1 in Purcellville, Virginia, for its fifth consecutive victory. Howard won the sets 25-16, 25-15 and 26-24. Zyon Austin led the Dragons with 13 kills and seven digs.

Howard Community College Controls First Two Sets

Howard won the opening set 25-16, controlling play from the start. Toriana Curry recorded three consecutive blocks during the set. The Dragons then pulled away in the second set for a 25-15 victory.

Patrick Henry College took an early lead in the third set, but Howard fought back with kills from Austin and a strong serving shift from Vivian Gonzalez. Patrick Henry committed 13 errors and Howard completed the sweep with a 26-24 win. Howard finished with a .157 hitting percentage compared with Patrick Henry’s -.009 attack percentage.

Dragons Spread Production Across Lineup

Howard recorded 34 total kills, 10 aces, and 57 total digs. Amelia Thomas added seven kills and one block, while Curry finished with five kills, five blocks, and three digs. Diana Feria contributed four kills and five digs.

Abigail Nirola led Howard with 29 assists. Yusra Arenas recorded 10 digs, and Kira King added 24 digs and three aces. King was one of six Howard players credited with an ace in the match.

Howard Community College Women’s Volleyball Schedule

Howard Community College is scheduled to play Frederick Community College on Tuesday, Oct. 6, at 6 p.m. Howard’s record was listed as 11-3, 8-2, while Patrick Henry College’s was 0-1, 0-0.
