Frostburg State University Men’s Soccer Falls 2-1 to Concord in Athens

Frostburg State Men’s Soccer fell 2-1 to Concord on Wednesday, Sept. 30, in Athens, W. Va. Concord led 2-0 at halftime before Nate Kennedy scored in the second half, but Frostburg State could not complete the comeback.

Concord Takes Halftime Lead

Concord opened the scoring within the first five minutes when Josiah Ochoa headed in a free kick from the left side. Frostburg State freshman goalkeeper Julian Quirk then stopped a headed attempt by Stephane Shongo to keep the deficit at one.

Quirk also saved a deflected shot as Concord continued to pressure. Frostburg State created opportunities through David Williams and Frank Stare, but neither chance produced a goal.

Adam Leibowitz doubled Concord’s lead with 10 minutes remaining in the first half. Leibowitz beat two Frostburg State defenders on a counterattack before finishing past Quirk, giving Concord a 2-0 advantage at the break.

Nate Kennedy Pulls Frostburg State Within One

Frostburg State came out of halftime with renewed pressure. Spencer Davis launched a long throw into the box, Kevin Garcia-Torres flicked the ball toward goal, and Nate Kennedy headed it into the net to make the score 2-1.

Kennedy’s goal was his fourth of the season, while Davis and Garcia-Torres received credit for the assists. Frostburg State continued to pursue an equalizer, but Concord goalkeeper Iori Tanaka tipped Abdallah Soulemana’s header over the bar, and Concord blocked late attempts by Christ Fopossi and Inzaghi Harmon.

Harmon sent a shot wide with 90 seconds remaining. Frostburg State finished with a 12-8 advantage in total shots, although Concord put five shots on target to Frostburg State’s four.

Frostburg State Men’s Soccer Record and Next Match

The loss dropped Frostburg State to 5-2-3, while Concord improved to 7-1-2. Frostburg State was scheduled to return home Sunday, Oct. 4, to host West Virginia Wesleyan at 2 p.m.
