University of Maryland, Baltimore County Sets Six Men’s and Women’s Events for Oct. 1-4

University of Maryland, Baltimore County has six scheduled events involving its men’s and women’s programs from Oct. 1 through Oct. 4, 2026. The slate includes women’s soccer, men’s soccer, cross country, swimming and diving, and women’s volleyball competitions at venues in Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Rhode Island.

The schedule includes three home events at the UMBC Aquatic Center, Retriever Soccer Park and Chesapeake Employers Insurance Arena. University of Maryland, Baltimore County also will compete at NJIT, Lehigh University and Bryant.

University of Maryland, Baltimore County Women’s Soccer Seeks Another Conference Win

The University of Maryland, Baltimore County women’s soccer team will play at NJIT at 7 p.m. Oct. 1 in Newark, New Jersey. The Retrievers are seeking their second straight America East Conference victory after winning seven games for the first time since 2014, when the team finished 12-4-3.

UMBC is ranked 167th in the latest NCAA RPI rankings and has the best winning percentage in the America East Conference at .667. Freshman forward Brooke Clagett was named America East Rookie of the Week for the second time this season.

The women’s soccer team will return home to face University at Albany at 1 p.m. Oct. 4 at Retriever Soccer Park. UMBC defeated University at Albany, 1-0, in Albany last season to end a 10-game winless streak against the Great Danes, with Grace Dunbar scoring an unassisted goal 2:04 into the second half.

Men’s Soccer Visits No. 25 Bryant

University of Maryland, Baltimore County men’s soccer will play at No. 25 Bryant at 7 p.m. Oct. 2 in Providence, Rhode Island. The Retrievers are seeking to end a two-game losing streak.

UMass Lowell defeated UMBC, 3-2, in the teams’ most recent outing. Nico Banks and Flynn Holdem scored goals for the Retrievers in that match.

Cross Country and Swimming and Diving Return to Competition

The University of Maryland, Baltimore County men’s and women’s cross country teams will compete in the Paul Short Invitational on Oct. 2 at Lehigh University’s Goodman Campus Cross Country Course in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. The men’s race is scheduled for 11 a.m., followed by the women’s race at 11:45 a.m.

The men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams will open their seasons against American and VMI at 1 p.m. Oct. 3 at the UMBC Aquatic Center. The men’s team won the America East Swimming & Diving Championship last season, its 15th title in 20 seasons of America East competition and its first since 2023, while the women’s team placed fourth in 2026.

Women’s Volleyball Hosts NJIT

University of Maryland, Baltimore County women’s volleyball will host NJIT at 3 p.m. Oct. 4 at Chesapeake Employers Insurance Arena. The Retrievers opened America East Conference play with victories at University at Albany and Bryant the previous weekend.

Junior Hannah Dobbs was named America East Player of the Week on Tuesday afternoon. She recorded 17 kills on .571 hitting, one error and nine digs in a sweep at Bryant, then added 15 kills and nine digs in a five-set win at University at Albany.

Dobbs averaged 4.00 kills and 2.25 digs per set across the two matches. NJIT entered the matchup at 1-14, while UMBC had won all 15 matches in the all-time series.
