The No. 4 Salisbury University women’s field hockey team (6-2) fell 2-1 in double overtime to York College of Pennsylvania (6-3) on Sept. 30 at Sea Gull Stadium in Salisbury, Maryland.
Devon DeGregory scored to give Salisbury a 1-0 lead in the 12th minute, assisted by Layla Kent. York’s Michaela Cokinos tied the game in the 29th minute, and neither team scored again until the second overtime period.
York Scores Late in Second Overtime
Kelbie Linebaugh scored York’s game-winning goal with 36 seconds remaining in the second overtime period. Salisbury entered the game with a 6-2 record, while York was 6-3 heading into the contest.
Salisbury outshot York 27-10 and held a 21-10 advantage in shots on goal. The Sea Gulls also earned 12 penalty corners compared with six for York, while Maddie Castaneda made four saves for Salisbury.
Salisbury University Women’s Field Hockey Opens SUNYAC Play
Salisbury University is scheduled to travel to New York for two games opening State University of New York Athletic Conference play. The Sea Gulls are set to face Oswego State on Saturday at noon before playing SUNY Morrisville on Sunday at noon.

Salisbury generated the stronger offensive numbers but could not convert them into a victory. The Sea Gulls now move into their SUNYAC-opening weekend with games against Oswego State and SUNY Morrisville scheduled next.
