Salisbury University Women’s Soccer Uses First-Half Goals to Defeat Stevenson 2-0

Salisbury University women’s soccer defeated Stevenson 2-0 on Sept. 30 at the Gerry DiBartolo Sea Gull Soccer Complex in Salisbury, Maryland, earning its second consecutive victory. Lauren Chesney and Ava Wheeler scored first-half goals, while Aley Martins made five saves in all 90 minutes to record her first career shutout.

Lauren Chesney Opens Scoring

Salisbury University took a 1-0 lead in the 20th minute when defender Lauren Chesney scored her first goal of the season. The Sea Gulls added to their advantage in the 34th minute when Ava Wheeler scored her first goal of the season.

Brooke Spadin found Callie Chesney on the right side before Callie delivered the assist on Wheeler’s goal. The assist was Callie Chesney’s third of the season.

Salisbury University Women’s Soccer Controls the Match

Salisbury University maintained its two-goal advantage after halftime as Aley Martins completed her first career shutout. Martins played all 90 minutes and made five saves.

The Sea Gulls outshot Stevenson 19-8, including an 8-5 advantage in shots on goal. Salisbury University also won the corner-kick battle 7-2.

Salisbury University is scheduled to visit Gettysburg on Oct. 3 at 4 p.m. The match will open the Sea Gulls’ October schedule.
