Hood College women’s field hockey earned a 1-0 victory over Wilson College at home Tuesday evening in Frederick, Md. Bianca Scally scored the lone goal as Hood closed its nonconference schedule.
Scally Scores Decisive Goal in Third Quarter
After a scoreless first half, midfielder Bianca Scally broke the deadlock during the third quarter, beating the Wilson goalkeeper for the only tally of the match.
Hood outshot Wilson 12-2 and held an 8-4 advantage in penalty corners, with Emma Massey and Ava Snelsire each recording shots on goal.
Buettner Registers First Career Shutout
Goalkeeper Harper Buettner made one save to record her first career shutout. Hood held Wilson scoreless despite the Phoenix receiving two penalty corners early in the opening quarter.
The Blazers did not allow a shot in the second quarter. However, Hood’s Emily Materna received a green card late in the third quarter, resulting in Hood playing a player down to start the final period. Hood preserved the 1-0 lead despite being a player short in the closing minutes.
Wilson’s Erin Sullivan made four saves during the contest.
Hood Opens Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth Play at Messiah
Hood College will begin Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth play against Messiah University in Grantham, Pa., on Oct. 7 at 7 p.m.

Hood College secured the shutout by limiting Wilson College to just two shots while generating 12 scoring opportunities of its own. Bianca Scally supplied the deciding goal, and Harper Buettner recorded the first shutout of her career. The Blazers now shift focus to conference play starting next week against Messiah University.
