BALTIMORE — Notre Dame of Maryland University women’s soccer defeated Cedar Crest 3-2 Tuesday afternoon at Turf Field Sponsored by the SSNDs, earning its first United East match victory of the season. Ava Tippett scored twice, including the game-winning goal in the 84th minute.
Tippett opened the scoring in the ninth minute before Cedar Crest’s Lizzy DeNunzio tied the match in the 21st minute. Leah Acri put Notre Dame of Maryland back in front in the 32nd minute, with Taylor Edwards providing the assist.
Ava Tippett Delivers the Decisive Goal
Edwards assisted Tippett’s second goal, giving Notre Dame of Maryland a 3-1 lead in the 84th minute. Cedar Crest scored 60 seconds later to cut the margin to one, but it could not find an equalizer.
DeNunzio scored both goals for Cedar Crest, while Camille Chambers recorded an assist. Notre Dame of Maryland snapped an eight-match losing streak against Cedar Crest and earned its first victory over the Falcons since 2015.
Notre Dame of Maryland Wins the Shot Battle
Notre Dame of Maryland outshot Cedar Crest 23-11 and held an 11-7 advantage in shots on goal. Alex Busick led all players with seven shots, while Acri led Notre Dame of Maryland with four shots on target.
Leah Hasberry made five saves for Notre Dame of Maryland. The Fighting Irish improved to 3-6-0 overall and 1-1-0 in United East play, while the three-goal performance marked the first time Notre Dame of Maryland scored three goals in the series since 2015.
Notre Dame of Maryland is scheduled to face Penn State Brandywine next Wednesday.
