The McDaniel College women’s soccer team earned its first road win of the season Sept. 26, defeating Ursinus 1-0 in Collegeville, Pa. Senior Alexis Keller-Posen scored the game’s lone goal in the 51st minute as McDaniel secured a Centennial Conference shutout victory.
McDaniel improved to 5-2-2 overall and 2-1 in Centennial Conference play. Ursinus fell to 4-3-1 overall and 1-2 in conference play.
Alexis Keller-Posen breaks scoreless tie
Neither team scored in the first half, although McDaniel held a 6-5 edge in shots. McDaniel scored on its first shot of the second half when Keller-Posen converted a corner kick assisted by senior Carly Brock.
The goal was Keller-Posen’s second of the season. Brock recorded her team-leading third assist, and McDaniel held a 4-0 advantage in second-half corner kicks without allowing Ursinus to record one.
McDaniel also held a 4-2 edge in shots on goal. The Green Terror maintained the shutout after taking the lead.
Sophomore Sierra Ruehl records fourth shutout
Sophomore goalkeeper Sierra Ruehl made two saves, recording one in each half. She earned her fifth win of the season, including her fourth by shutout.
Lexie Albaeck made three first-half saves for Ursinus. The result gave McDaniel its second shutout in three Centennial Conference contests.
McDaniel women’s soccer team returns home
McDaniel begins a three-game homestand Wednesday against Elizabethtown in its final nonconference contest of the season. Kickoff is scheduled for 4 p.m. at the Soccer Complex.
