WASHINGTON, D.C. — Coppin State University women’s volleyball swept Howard 3-0 Thursday at Burr Gymnasium in their Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference opener. The Eagles won 25-16, 25-17 and 25-20, securing their eighth consecutive victory.
Coppin State improved to 9-5 overall and 1-0 in MEAC play, while Howard fell to 1-11 overall and 0-1 in the conference. The Eagles hit .306 as a team and held Howard to a .094 hitting percentage.
Coppin State Controls the Net
The Eagles dominated at the net with 14 blocks compared to Howard’s four. Rori Gray led with six blocks, and Cherisse Atliano and Deviana Walker each added two.
Atliano led Coppin State with 10 kills. Walker contributed nine kills while hitting .500, with Kayden Cupid and Ivanna Luna each adding six kills; Cupid also hit .500.
Eva Rovello Leads Coppin State Offense
Setter Eva Rovello recorded a match-high 31 assists, along with four service aces, two kills and five digs. Her four aces were the most on the team as the Eagles totaled seven service aces overall.
Defensively, Coco Figueroa led the Eagles with 13 digs. Coppin State completed the conference opener without dropping a set.
Next Match
The Eagles return to action Sunday, Sept. 27, at Norfolk State, with the match scheduled for 1 p.m. on the MEAC Network.
