Caroline Carter led the Goucher College women’s volleyball team with 10 kills in a 3-1 loss to Notre Dame of Maryland University on Wednesday, Sept. 23, 2026, in Baltimore, Md. Notre Dame (Md.) won the match by set scores of 25-19, 25-17, 18-25 and 25-15, with Goucher claiming the third set.
Goucher entered the nonconference match with a 4-6 overall record, while Notre Dame (Md.) entered at 5-5. Both teams remained 0-0 in conference play, with Goucher competing in the Landmark Conference and Notre Dame (Md.) in the United East.
Caroline Carter Leads Goucher College Women’s Volleyball Offensively
Carter led Goucher with 10 kills, followed by Juliana Stoneberg with nine and Kelsi Hockaday with seven. The Gophers finished with a .133 hitting percentage, two blocks, 55 digs and two aces.
Sofia Ortiz recorded 16 assists, while Grace Prusmack added 12 assists and 11 digs. Athena Savick led Goucher with 12 digs and moved within two digs of 1,000 for her career.
Carly Love recorded a service ace, and four Goucher players contributed one block each. Notre Dame (Md.) finished with a .149 hitting percentage, five blocks, 65 digs and seven aces.
Notre Dame of Maryland University Wins Three Sets
Notre Dame (Md.) used a five-point run to build a 12-6 lead in the opening set, but Goucher pulled within three points at 16-13. The Fighting Irish closed the set with a 25-19 victory.
Goucher opened the second set with a 4-0 lead behind kills from Stoneberg and Kanay Parham. Notre Dame (Md.) answered with a run to take a 16-9 advantage and held on for a 25-17 win.
Goucher responded in the third set by taking an early lead and extending its advantage to 12-6. The Gophers reached set point at 24-18 before a Notre Dame (Md.) attacking error secured the 25-18 victory.
Parham and Carter helped Goucher open the fourth set with kills, and the teams reached a 3-3 tie. Notre Dame (Md.) then used a five-point run to take a 10-5 lead before closing out the set, 25-15, and the match, 3-1.
Goucher College Women’s Volleyball Hosts Saturday Tri-Match
Goucher is scheduled to return to action Saturday, Sept. 26, by hosting Cheyney and Gwynedd Mercy in a home tri-match. The Gophers are scheduled to face Cheyney at 11 a.m. before taking on Gwynedd Mercy at 1 p.m.
