Creed Willems set sacrifice-fly record
Creed Willems played 111 games and led the Tides with 32 multi-hit games. His 10 sacrifice flies led the International League and established an Orioles affiliate franchise record.
Trey Gibson made 20 starts for Norfolk, including the Opening Day start. He went 4-7 with a 4.32 ERA, allowing 44 earned runs in 91 2/3 innings, with a 1.42 WHIP and 86 strikeouts against 33 walks.
Gibson made his Major League debut with the Orioles on May 3 at New York, becoming the first starting pitcher in franchise history to make his debut at Yankee Stadium. He earned his first Major League win with Baltimore on May 27 against Tampa Bay.
Norfolk pitching and late-season promotions
Nestor German led Norfolk in innings pitched and strikeouts. He appeared in 24 games, including 22 starts, and went 5-5 with a 4.08 ERA, allowing 53 earned runs in 117 innings, with 120 strikeouts, 46 walks, a .246 opponent’s average and a 1.32 WHIP.
German landed on the injured list Aug. 20 and missed the rest of the season. For the final week of the season, Ethan Anderson and Aron Estrada were promoted to Norfolk from Double-A Chesapeake.
Anderson was named an Eastern League All-Star. Estrada ranked among Eastern League leaders in home runs, hits, RBIs, extra-base hits, batting average and slugging percentage.
