Bowie State University women’s volleyball lost to Virginia State, 3-1, in its Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association and home opener Sept. 22 at A.C. Jordan Arena in Bowie, Maryland. Virginia State won the match by set scores of 25-21, 19-25, 25-20 and 25-20.
Jy’Asha Cousins led Bowie State with eight kills, 11.5 points and four blocks, including three solo blocks. Melisa Anacius added seven kills while hitting .462 and recorded two solo blocks.
Bowie State University Women’s Volleyball Takes Second Set
Bowie State finished with 35 kills, 56 digs, eight total blocks and a .034 hitting percentage. Gabrielle Hale recorded a team-high 18 assists, two service aces and eight digs, while Abena Asomani-Martin collected a team-high 11 digs along with six kills and one solo block.
Virginia State led 5-4 in the second set before Bowie State moved ahead 9-6. The Bulldogs secured the set, 25-19, but Virginia State responded by winning the third and fourth sets, each by a 25-20 score.
Virginia State Women’s Volleyball Gets Strong Match From Gracie Darville
Virginia State finished with 40 kills, 73 digs, nine total blocks and a .076 hitting percentage. Gracie Darville led the Trojans with 16 kills, 14 digs, four total blocks and 19.5 points.
Kellee Craig recorded a team-high 16 digs and added two service aces for Virginia State. Anya McKinley posted five total blocks, including two solo blocks, and six kills, while Peyton Reese contributed 15 assists, 12 digs and two service aces.
Bowie State University Women’s Volleyball Hosts Elizabeth City State Next
Bowie State is scheduled to host Elizabeth City State University on Thursday, Sept. 24, 2026, at 6 p.m. at A.C. Jordan Arena in Bowie, Maryland. The match follows Bowie State’s home and CIAA opener against Virginia State.
